Where's the pride son?

Not one person that I have spoken to since "The Decision" was made agrees with it. LeBron James single handily has changed basketball whether we like it or not. His decision to take his "talents to South Beach" has changed the way teams and players look at building winning teams. Gone are the days of drafting a stud player and building around him. Instead, teams will now try and surround that player with key marquee players to win now. If not, that player bounces after their rookie contract and tries to form the new mega three. Boston's situation was completely different. KG and Ray were traded and understood that it was Pierce's team. Say hello to the softer NBA.

Now with news that Chris Paul wants to leave New Orleans, the rumour is that he wants to join Amare in New York and is pushing hard for Melo to join him next year. What happened to players wanting to beat these guys instead of joining them? Jordan was right; never in his day would he call Magic and Bird to join forces. Back in the day, teams never acknowledged each other before games. No big hugs,no daps. It was on as soon as you step on the court. Now, forget it. If you look at how society is today, younger people don't want to work for anything. They want get to the top without putting in the work. Look at Bron, every summer, you hear about this cat working on becoming a mogul or a billionaire. How often do you hear about him working on his game? Until he does that, Kobe is the man to beat and Durant is going to pass you. Which is why I am pulling hard for OKC this year. That's a team that's doing it right. Young squad with a humble leader who wants to continue to get better. That attitude eventually gets to your teammates. I have no problem with Bron leaving Cleveland. he did his time and had the right to leave. But if you wanted true credit, you sign with Chicago or stay in Cleveland. You can win 10 rings in a row, but no one will respect it. Face it Bron, you took the easy road.

With this new trend of mega teams coming along, I feel sorry for dudes like Steve Nash who put work in and get shafted. It's not right. I'm not gonna lie though, I will watch the Heat because in the end, this team will be ridiculous. You can ask the co-creator of this site and he'll tell you I'm not a Lakers fan, but come this season, I am pushing hard for Kobe to put these guys in their place. I'm also hoping Boston has one more push in them to slap these guys back to reality. If not, I can always rely on my Raps to put up a good fight. Yeah right!!! We're so screwed in Toronto.

I haven't won $hit, I have positioned myself with 2 of the top 6 in the L and I am the "King"....and I punked an entire city...who am I?

Lebron James......
Dude you pulled one of the most serious douche bag moves of all time in the history of media, not sports but media and pop culture.

You don't have an hour long special to f##k over your loyal hometown fans and don't think for one second that you are the 'king'. Dude, Jordan did it a certain way as did, Kobe, Magic,Bird,Hakeem and Tim. They didn't position themselves in such a way cause they wanted to do it on their own. Lebron look at Kevin Durant if you wanna see how its done in this age of the NBA.

Also, I don't ever, ever, everrrrrr ( a la jericho ) wanna hear you in discussions as being one of the best ever. Cause when you partner yourself with 2 of the top 6 guys in the L at their primes.....your not as good as advertised.

I am not gonna lie, I'm gonna enjoy watching this Heat squad but the principal behind this, just doesn't sit well with me. I am interested to see how Lebron handles being 1b now, cause don't get it twisted, that's Wade's team and town. According to James, it was an opportunity to play with Wade. Hmmmmm.......I love Dwayne Wade after Kobe he's my other favorite player in the league (melo/durant and f'n david lee are in my list too). Anyhow the entire 'air apparent' discussion is over. Kobe is the closest, Lebron literally has changed his legacy and direction of his career by doing this. Lebron you will now be known as the 2nd fiddle. But as much as I am not a Lebron fan (well of his ego and persona) I did happen to see 'more then a game' and it is clear that the guy loves friends around him on and off the court.

So perhaps this decision was made also with a personal 'need' to be fulfilled and it maybe doesn't matter to him....the fact that your the 'man', the legacy and the perception among your peers and the greats.

I am far from done about talking about this, just wanted this to be the initial post and ill begin again tomorrow!!

p.s. Ray/Paul and Kevin decided to hookup in the twilight of their careers, no harm done, they wanted things to end the right way, with a chip. In their primes however, they all were the respective "man" on their teams...

I still can't believe he's doing an hour show about where he's gonna end up. If he decides to leave Cleveland, it just looks so bad on him, and he'll officially anoint himself as the biggest douche the NBA has ever seen. I actually tweeted back, check my question below.

No Marquee in the Spotlight

Sitting on the train this morning and reading my twitter feeds for both @brokeanklesblog and @_bigkev_ something just hit me like a lightning bolt.

CB4 is out. We are not signing nor drafted the new "guy, guy", so essentially since the franchises inception, the Raptors will be w/o a franchise player. That kind of sucks.....

It started with Damon, then Vince/TMAC, then it was all Vince until he got traded to the Nets and Chris Bosh took the keys to the car for the rest of the ride. Bosh's ride ends now and we don't have another existing guy who can really be the #1 guy or even the talent to be the #1 guy so what and how is this franchise going to suffer next season w/o a marquee presence!?

The casual NBA fan in the city of Toronto (that's a lot of people) will for sure tune out, ticket prices will most likely remain the same (well they are, I know....) so attendance will drop I think dramatically, cause people will say, "who the hell is that guy....and that guy, and why does that guy suck so bad....who's he, etc, etc..why the f##k am I here right now...ooh look @ the tasty over there....but seriously why am I here!?" Basketball in the T Dot doesn't pull the same weight as Hockey, so that consistent fan base and excitement is just something that will not be present next season, nor has it ever. The Raptors from a, ummm, marketing/economic perspective next season will have a hard time.

I feel eventually over the next few seasons we will sign or draft that next guy, every team in the NBA has "him" so we will get ours eventually. But no doubt the Raptors will have a rough road ahead not just as a team on the court but as a franchise in the front and back office of things.

Before I close this, just attacking any 'rebut les' as you read this:

-no, andrea/hedo are not #1 guys. andrea will never and can never be a #1 guy in the L simply because he's the biggest tweener I have ever seen in my life. hedo can only be the #1 guy in Turkey.....

-ed davis is not chris bosh

-at this point after this chris bosh debacle, we are not signing anyone. our GM has an ego and issues with being proactive. cause if your sitting and reading this and thought last season that chris would resign here.....then I respectfully ask, "get off my blog!!!"

-why wasn't bosh traded earlier in the year.....see above

-demar derozan......no

-our best bet to success is to model ourselves after memphis....seriously

-bryan colangelo isn't as good as advertised, in a buyers market....be that seller (I'm a trader, its a pretty simple concept)

-raptorstv should do like a retrospect on bosh and use that usher song...."Cause in the spotlight...with or w/o u babe...." Or however it goes....that'd be funny. better then those 'reggae' inspired commericials they play now

Tweet from: @brokeanklesblog

So tomorrow night on espn, lebron james is having a prime time special to announce his decision....he's basically gonna stay put in Cleveland....Bill Simmons tweet said it best, he wouldn't put on an hour special to announce his departure.

Bosh however, I'm thinking Jersey or if the Bulls really want him and can send Noah back its gonna down. Orrrrrr.....what if he stays here and brings Wade with him.

I can dream can't I!?

don't let this pic fool you, every family has its problems....

According to espn.com, a bunch of tweets from various ball blogs and the Toronto Sun (well Doug Smith), the Raptors are not to pleased with CB4, and are kind of on the fence right now in regards to his sign and trade.

Why?? Cause I am assuming there is a certain amount of professionalism when dealing with $125MM on the table and class you would expect from someone you have given the spotlight to for 7 years. That party involved in these discussions isn't exactly reciprocat-ing the same kind of class back to the organization. Meaning Chris, what are you doing? My boy Eric Smith (best ball broadcaster in the country, fyi) a few weeks back on the game plan, gave Chris Bosh an enthusiastic thumbs down for the way Bosh has been dealing with this entire FA situation, especially in terms of his media appearances i.e. Interviews, TV appearances, etc. For Eric Smith to do that, well, that's saying a lot.

Since the season ended, I can personally say that Chris Bosh, the face of the Raptors since the departure of Vince Carter (the GOAT in raps history **i don't care what anyone says!!**), has been really stand offish with the Toronto media. I haven't seen him on RapsTV, TheScore or heard him on the FAN590. Which are all the major ball outlets in Toronto. If Bosh decided to wear a Leaf Jersey or an FC jersey for that matter as he strolled thru the mall on a weekend, TSN would be all over it...that's a post for another day....but Bosh really hasn't said anything about his outlook or status in regards to Toronto, or his situation to any media outlet in Toronto. That's fine and all, but when you are all over ESPN (mike and mike), TV/Radio in Chicago, Dallas and whatever other potential FA destinations you have stopped by, then that aint cool in my books. Especially for a city that praises you any chance it gets.

The report that broke about the Raps not being too concerned about a possible S/T w/ Bosh and the back bone of this post, is a little strange to me. I definitely see where the Raps are coming on this one, as I stated above, but as an organization you do need to get something back in return for this guy. Not like what we got back in the best deal of all time (vc-nj-babcock) but something of a little substance we can use on the court or apart of a bigger deal in the future. Reading our Twitter feed and my personal one as well, there is no major FA even interested in talking to the Raptors. I mean I don't hear anything or see anything that gives us any chance of signing any kind of player, of substance. So its imperative we get something back for Mr Bosh when he decides on a team to join.

Therefore the Raptors need to force the issue with him and his agent to look at destinations that can do a sign and trade w/ us or a possible third team to get involved and help us out, while Bosh goes to greener pastures. Either way next season, we're gonna be in some deep ish in terms of the W column. Everything with this franchise needs to change, and maybe its time they put their foot down and really try to make things happen in the right direction. #youngguns....if your on Twitter you know what I'm talking about!!

I'm not sure what exactly triggered this sentiment between Bosh and the Raptors, but I have a strong feeling his tweets over the last few days may have something to do with it.....

In order, going backwards, some @chrisbosh highlights on Twitter:

"Finally back in my environment. #freeagency has been a whirlwind. This decision is not going to be easy..."

"Chicago's next. This is the last of the day."

"Finished with the Knicks. Another impressive one. I'm starving!"

"I'm starving and ready for dinner. Grabbing some food with close friends... Maybe we'll discuss everything that happened today"

"Off to a great start. First one went well. Pat Riley is very passionate about winning"

and my personal fav, I think everyone's fav....drumroll please......

"After all these years... Just 24 hrs left..... Wow. I'm getting anxious."

I hope @chrisbosh continues to follow us on twitter and our blog, going forward. Not trying to bash you or "him" but its just really, really tough to get behind him right now and this Raptors organization in general. What I wouldn't do to be GM for 2 days.....hmmmmm

UFC 116 - Carwin/Lesnar

So tonight the two heads of brokeankles are at, well I mean we are at WEGZ in the bridge son....if y'all don't know what the 'bridge' is, its the Canadian version of Jersey Shore....

Anyhow tonight we're checkin the big UFC event, where the main event is Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin. Both men are just grossly large and angry. Kind of like Kevin Sunder when we doesn't have his mid day nap. I'm taking Lesnar, Sunder is taking Carwin. For tonight's bet we'll figure the ante as the night progresses.....

Lesnar hasn't had a fight for a long time cause he had herpes or some shit so he's pretty amped but I'm worried his fitness may not to be up to par. Carwin is on a mean streak and is hungry, and that's a tough, tough man. So let's see how this shapes up.

The rest of the crew are saying the following:

Sunder: Carwin
Richie: Carwin, tko first round
Jeff: Carwin by decision
BigKev: Lesnar, 1st round knockout via F-5 w/ Paul Heyman in his corner

.....Also we just saw some f'd up guy w/ a mullet walk by us ewww bhahahahah....let's see if I can get a pic of him before the night ends.

someone is pissing everyone off....

J.A Adande just wrote a little 'insider news' on espn insider (I also posted the article on our twitter) about how the Raptors really don't give a ish right now how Bosh obtains his next deal.

I am kind of happy about this decision cause about a day before the FA period began, Chris Bosh has been tweeting away pure bullshit. We follow all the major athletes on our feed and see what their tweeting....CB4 is the only guy talking his business. I had commented on his tweets a few times over the last couple days. Here is an exact quote from the 'inside source':

"Bosh's Twitterization of the courting process, which included several tweets of anticipation leading up to the July 1 commencement of free agency, didn't sit well with the Raptors either, the source said."

Good. The Raptors should just move on now and face reality, he's gone, let him go and let us move on now....we need to figure out stuff. Check this read via our twitter if you wanna read more.

NBA Free Agency 2010 - so far....pretty wack

So far this much anticipated NBA FA period has been pretty weak. No real big news w/ the exception of Joe Johnson getting a crazy 120MM from the Hawks and Drew Gooden joining what seems like his 26th NBA team in 8 years.

Even when Bosh/Wade and Lebron make their decisions and sign somewhere I think the biggest signing regardless was the following:

Minnesota signs Darko for 4 years 20MM.....seriously, Darko will make 5MM USD a year for the next 4 years. How!? In short like @eric__smith put it, "its proof of the american dream still kickin..." Darko in the history books of the NBA has to be considered in that 'top 10 bust list' this guy has been playing sparingly over the last few years and a european return seemed imminent but the Wolves come and pull this shit.

Awesome....on this note, anyone know where Kwame Brown is?? He needs a re-up too....
