tragedy strikes, disappointment defines goldenballs

Once again tragedy strikes to the 34 year old David Beckham as adversity plagues yet again to his up and down career.

Normally I am a columnist for brokeankles for mma and fighting news but I am also a avid football fan or sorry I should say soccer, And since I havent seen a article written about soccer on the blog I decided to write one. With few months away to the kickoff of the World Cup in South Africa David Beckham dreams of participating in his 4th World Cup appearance came to a end sunday as he torn his achillies tendon while playing a league game against Chievo. A reoccuring injury that has bothered him since his arrival to the MLS, and I bet La Galaxy and the powers to be at the MLS headquarters are now thinking to themselves it's time to find another job. Kudos to them to think one man can power and generate interest to the game in America and envision to be a topflight league that is at par with Laliga or the premiership. Sorry..hate to break to you but as much as DB is a life idol to me, he is at the twlight of his career now and when The Galaxy signed Beckham to a 5-yr $250 million dollar contract...well who wouldn't refused, I would sit on the bench and enjoy the paparazzi snap photos of me while the lads on the bench ask themselves i wish I was DB.. but that's just me. If this is it for David Beckham career, consider this it was a awful way to end it.

After a Welcome back beatdown in the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford, a stadium Beckham was remembered of powering United to many championships including there famous The treble back in '99 that saw them capture the premiership title, fa cup, and the famous champions league title, Becks started for the aging AC Milan against Chievo and halfway through the match it all came crashing down. Alone with the ball, goldenballs took a step back and seem to roll over prematurly on his ankle. He notice something was wrong however tried to ignore the unpleasant feeling then took another stride but this time moving forward hesitated and just kick the ball and hobbled to the sideline. After that tears came gushing down on his already bruised face. A scare on his face he sustained while colliding with a Chievo players earlier in the game. At this moment I am certain that the MLS was watching and having a heart attack, The La Galaxy is probably shaking thier heads in disbelief while Landon Donovan is cheering for joy, and Fabio Capello the manager for the England squad is at shock as to what happened. He knew it was over as paramedics rush to DB and get him to the team Doctors to examined what is wrong. He lye their moaning over and over and said " it is torn", referring to his Achillies tendon.
Beckham will not fulfill his destiny to play in his 4th World Cup nor have the chance to be the first born englishmen to score in 4 world cup events. Also break Peter Shilton capped record for appearance on the national squad. So there was a lot in stake for db to make the squad but he wasn't a certain choice to make the team with the emergence of shawn philips and Aaron Lennon playing his position he had to prove to Fabio that he is the right man for the job.

Speed and strength has been Beckham weakness in his game, He's not as fast as he once was nor start in games. Well at least not fast enough to start in europe. If he plans on coming back he will be a lot slower than what he was when he was healthy, too slow to figure at the highest level.

The only thing he would have left is his $250 million dollar right foot. With his right foot as his only arsenal and his left foot is as weak as lady gaga music his ability to swing in dead balls and crosses might be good enough to catch on a play with a second division european team. Bad enough he has accepted supportive roles in AC Milan and the England squad so for him to accept to play in second tier football in europe is embarassing and his ignorance and pride will allow him to isolate himself from such embarassment. Talk about a bad romance.

At the top he was a fantastic player. He won all the top prizes their is in football other than hoisting the coveted world cup and has played on two of europes biggest clubs Manchester United and Real Madrid. He signed his first professional contract at the age of 14 with the reds and spent 10 years with the club. During his time with the reds he has shown excellence and brilliance with his deadly freekicks and who can ever forget his midfield goal against wimbledon in '96. He noticed the goalkeeper Neil Sullivan was away from his goal and Db decided to float one in net, well as you may know what happened after that. Something Neil Sullivan will be remebered As he got into more of a senior role on his team he began to quarrel with legendary club manager Sir Alex Ferguson which lead to a lockeroom incident where Ferguson kicked a soccer boot to Beckhams head which lead to Beckhams depature from the squad. In 2003 he signed a four year contract with arch arival Real Madrid for a tranfer fee worth 35 million euros. The team consist of legendary players with Ronaldo, Zidane, Raul, Guti, and Casillas with the addition to Beckham there were dubbed as the galaticos. Since his depature from ManU it went all down hill from there, with much media hype that surrounding this team for years Madrid has failed to reach the champions league finals yet alone win any titles since Beckhams arrival. In 2007 he has announced he will play for the La Galaxy of the Mls for a reported 5 year $250 millions contract. It created such media attention and turned a lot of avid soccer fans heads as to why one he would play in a second tier league and two who would pay such amount of money for a player that is at the twlight of his career. MLS consider this move as the saviour for North American soccer, onced the famous Pele was hailed for doing back in the 60's but after his retirement NASL became extinct. Few years since that record breaking contract it was a bust. He caught the American eyes as to a player that couldn't commit. havent played a full season yet alone was never 100% healthy. he came into the Galaxy lineup with a injured left ankle and since then only played a handful of games. Frustrating to say at least his high stakes did more harm than good for Major League Soccer. His first two seasons in the MLS he has failed to lead the Galaxy to the playoffs and began to quarrel with US product Landon donovan. Teammate of his since his arrival Donovan was stripped of his captaincy from the team to be given to Beckham and what a way to show respect to the All time leading scorer for the United States. Donovan has described Beckham as "selfish" and consider Beckham as a "Bad" teammate. Not only fueding with his teammates but also the players in the league. Players began to question as to why Beckhams contract is far greater than a mid level player that is only getting 12.500 per season. There were times during matches players frustrations on Beckham will lead to trying to harm Beckham by intentially hurting Beckhams right foot. It has caused fights between two clubs and have pretty boy Becks trying to give players a superman punch.

A overall club career that is more of a celebrity gossip article than something worth remembering. Did I mentioned he married former spice girl Victoria "posh" spice.

Only did he have trouble adjusting to his club career but also in the international stage too.

In the ’98 World Cup, Beckham’s reputation crashed out alongside England. He became a national whipping boy after being red carded for kicking Argentina’s Diego Simeone during a pivotal knockout match. For four years he began to rebrand himself.
By the 2002 World Cup, he was England captain, He had his worse game of the tournament in the quarter-finals, as England was manhandled by eventual champions, Brazil.

The enduring image of Beckham is Euro 2004 is him pointing helplessly at a muddy patch on the turf after shanking a penalty kick. Like the country he represents, Beckham’s whole footballing history seems to happen at the penalty spot.
Same old in 2006 — an aging Beckham a non-factor as England went out once again at the quarter-final stage against Portugal. He was substituted through injury, and left the field in tears.

This year world cup was his last chance to erased any memories he had while wearing his national colours. A chance to rebrand himself as one of the best english offensive players that ever graced the pitch for england. He already knew coming in that he would be more of a supportive player versus a starter- a role Beckham is already accustom too. All his life he has faced adversity but rather going public and ranting about the situation he allowed his right foot to do the talking. It's unfortunate for him to go down this way but it's the life of a player.

If this is the end to Beckhams career, at least we witnessed that nobody can bend it like he can...
