2010 NFL off-season

our first NFL post, by probably the hottest Bills fan in the world, my good friend Diane.... check it out peeps, thats really her. SERIOUS!

Am I the only one sitting here wondering just how lifeless and blasé this NFL off season has been? But wait, this IS the league that somehow manages to finesse even the most insipid events - point and case a Washington Redskins game *cough cough* Nevertheless, I’m always that girl who sprints over to my computer come midnight on the first Friday in March to get the latest scoop on the free agency period. A period that is usually encumbered with upper echelon players determining to sign with the same old cast of characters to satisfy their typical requirements of money, a warm climate, money, a winning team, money, a great nightlife and did I mention money? Meeting this criteria is not difficult for teams like the Cowboys, Giants, Jets, Patriots, Dolphins and so on, but leaves semblant wastelands such as Oakland, Cincinnati and Buffalo reaching out to agitators like Antonio Bryant and Terrell Owens as last ditch efforts to try and sell false hope to their respective diminishing fan bases. As a life long Bills fan I'd like to apologize to those who will have to deal with the Buffalo Bills - Tim Tebow saga that will likely unfold shortly. Let the draft speculations begin!

This off-seasons pick of the free-agency litter has been quite sparse. With the exception of proven stars like Karlos Dansby, Anquan Boldin and Julius Peppers scurrying to supposed greener pastures, the talent available fields a list of consistently under-achieving, yet newly over-paid, wannabe "ballers".I use the term ballers loosely. Lets take a look at exhibit A: Antrel Rolle is a talented safety with impressive stats but I need a bit more proof to justify his deservance of being the highest paid safety in NFL history. The argument can be made that this will be an “uncapped year” which will yield salaries of astronomical levels (before the league inevitably goes on strike next season), but it just doesn’t seem right. Onto exhibit B: Aaron Kampman, the now ex- Packer, has had some success in his career, but was a major bust as an OLB in Dom Capers’ 3-4 defence last year. I just don’t see it being that easy to go back to being a highly productive 4-3 DE and consequently warranting a $26 million contract ($11 million of which is guaranteed). Guaranteed yet completely absurd.

So any other edge of your seat, “high profile” signings you may ask? Cornell Green, David Carr, Scott Fujita, Donovan McNabb and Justin Bannan encompass a small bunch who have all been recently signed to fairly large contracts. Eeeekkk! Not exactly the attention grabbing endorsement for the sexiness of the free-agency period. So, who are we left with? Alge Crumpler, Greg Ellis, Rex Grossman, and Terrell Owens? Ohhhhhh boy, April 23rd seems like it can't come soon enough! Oh…wait. I think that means we’ll be over-fed persisstent draft analysis by Mel Kiper Jr.– great! Damn you, NFL!

Well, this off-season has been just that - OFF!
Until next time
