-Aaron Brooks
-Kevin Durant
-Russell Westbrook
-Gerald Wallace
-Josh Smith
-J. Noah
-Trevor Ariza
This group of guys to me is a little different then the norm MIP candidate list in that every casual ball head shoulda, or coulda heard of any one of these guys at any point this season by the media. Each player played a key role on their team, all while elevating their game statistically and in general. Now decision time is a little more tougher......
Ariza, doubled his stat output from the season before in every stat cat as he's played in a primary role for the Rockets this season. But inconsistency and injuries get you knocked out homie. You still can improve dramitically and can become a real G in the very near future. Being a bench player for your whole career, then making top dollar and becoming somewhat the 'man' takes some adjusting.
Gerald Wallace, Josh Smith are very similar players, and each player took a step into the right direction this year. Wallace improved his ppg and if possible his perimeter D, along with leading his sqaud to the playoffs this year and getting an All Star berth for the first time. This has been a career year for him! Smith, has just improved his over all demeanor on the court and that's translated into him being the new 'shawn marion' stat wise, but with w/ a side of 'D'. The guy is just a f'n beast on the defensive end of the court and.....wait a second I'm writing this on the go train and nobody is sitting near me, do I smell or something!!??? Seriously lol......anyhow Smith, Wallace, although well deserved, won't get the nod in that there stat output from year to year isn't that great, and its almost expected for them to put up great numbers like they have this season. They took a step into becoming better leaders and contributors for playoff bound teams, that's their improvement, and that's great!
KD, went from a star/rising real 'g', to superstar this year and the MIP won't cut it for this guy, he's going for the MVP. Taking his young gun squad to the playoffs in the west......wow.
Which leaves me to the final 3, Brooks, Noah and Westbrook. All 3 have just been awesome, statistically. Noah's numbers jump off the page when you look at them year to year. Brooks has become the official leader of a Rockets squad w/o a direction and has the numbers to prove it. Then there's good ole Westbrook......this guy has improved his numbers year to year and is considered one of the top PGs in the L, on top of helping his team land a playoff spot this year in the west. This is the guy who keeps megastar KD well fed, Jeff Green happy all while leading his team with veteran poise. I guess you all can gather who brokeankles votes for....
Russell, you took a stat leap, your team is the post season, you play along a superstar who's helped elevate your game to a border line all star and are leading an extremely young team to success on the court as a PG.
If you have not really had a chance to follow Westbrook's game, then you need to hop on youtube and start checkin game highlights and his video tributes. The guy is a phenomenal PG. His numbers are solid, won't really jump off the page, but make so much sense when you see OKC play. He's great, and next season hopefully the rest of the NBA see's it and he makes it to the show, I.E. All Star Status.
Booyaaaa....
