El Matador lived up to the hype with a all-rounded display of finesse and no hint of cage rust with a leglock submission and produced Chad HInton's first lost in his career.
With the second season on it's way in Hollywood, FLA. Bellator's prestigious aquisition of former UFC ranked lightweight contender Roger Huerta lived up to his billing and advanced to the semifinals of the lightweight tourney. Hinton (6-1) couldn't resist in tapping out to a kneebar applied by Huerta ( 21-3-1) 56 seconds into the third and final round. " The leg was there," said Huerta whom had controlled Hinton on the ground with a brutual ground and pound prior before the submission. " I was trying to finish by a TKO, ground and pound, but I had to take the leg."
During the match HInton showed he can go toe-to-toe with the veteran ufc fighter, but Huerta asserted himself by outboxing him and successfully taken him down at will. Huerta looked like he was on his way to a brutal TKO finish in the second round as soon as he took him down- Huerta connected with solid punches from the full mount position, while Hinton seemed helpless to keep his arm to block.
Huerta kept displaying his boxing prowless in the third round. With his close friends in attendance Jeremy Shockey and Mickey Rourke, he made sure he wasn't going to be defeated tonight. At one point Hinton tried to shift momentum by taking Huerta's back while both were standing however Roger being the experience fighter rolled forward, and found himself on top of Hinton's and saw his legs for the taking.
Probably one of Huerta's impressive performance thus far in his early mma career, and his first fight outside the UFC since 2006. I do believe he will breeze through the tourney and a title shot for Eddie Alvarez to get ready for. Let's hope he's ready for the killer.
